Events scheduled for National Coming Out Week

A series of events is planned over the next few days to encourage discussion about LGBTQ issues and to help celebrate National Coming Out Week.

 The events, organized by the Advocates group and Jamie Bergeron, assistant director of and CLSI, begin Wednesday when classes resume and students return from mid-term recess.

鈥淥ur goal is to promote a better appreciation and understanding of all sexual orientations and gender identities,鈥 she said. 鈥淎nd by participating as an entire campus community we can demonstrate that 含羞草传媒 is a place for students, staff, faculty, and alumni to live openly.鈥

Here are the events scheduled this week:

鈥 Closet door displays will be hung Wednesday at the O鈥機onnor Campus Center, Frank Dining Hall, Reid Athletic Center, and Case Library. Students and faculty members are urged to sign the displays and offer words of support for those who are considering coming out.

鈥 A gathering at the ALANA Cultural Center at 9 p.m. Wednesday to create T-shirts and to enjoy food and music.

鈥 A panel discussion about coming out will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Center for Women鈥檚 Studies.

鈥 A bonfire fueled by the closet door displays will take place 7 p.m. Friday on Whitnall Field.

鈥 Neil Rosenberg 鈥74 will host a barbecue at his village residence at 4 p.m. Saturday.
