Getting some family time on campus is made easy

natalie.jpgThis week kicked off with the arrival of our parents.

߲ݴý provided many great activities for Family Weekend this year. Throughout the weekend, families could be found attending lectures, viewing shows at the Ho vis lab, laughing at a comedy show featuring Jim Belushi, and cheering on the Raiders at the athletic events.

For Family Weekend, my mom, dad, and little sister Sophia came to visit me. We spent our time together talking about my classes, extra-curriculars, and how much I am enjoying college. I only had great things to say.

When my parents arrived, our first stop was the football game against Lehigh. My family really loves football, and any chance to see ߲ݴý play becomes a family outing. Next, we headed to downtown Hamilton to do some shopping (my mom’s area of expertise). She got some early Christmas shopping done at her favorite stores, Swank and Steph boutique.

As we walked around downtown, I got the chance to meet several of my friends’ parents, which was a great experience.

It was really nice to see students enjoy the time spent with their parents, whether they were just walking around the campus or eating dinner together. This weekend allowed students and parents the time to reconnect, and ߲ݴý did an awesome job of providing them the opportunity to do so.

After our parents left, students got back to work. This week has been pretty hectic, but teachers decided to de-stress us a bit by celebrating Halloween on Monday.

In my Spanish class, my professor gave each student a sugar calavera (skull) to decorate to celebrate the Mexican holiday “El Dia de los Muertos” (the Day of the Dead). In other classes, teachers distributed candy and wished a “Happy Halloween” to the little kid in all of us.

On the 31st, some students really got into the spirit. I actually recall seeing a cat, a witch, and a Power Ranger in my biology class. The night of Halloween, some of my friends got into their costumes and went trick or treating in Hamilton. They have been bragging about how much candy they received ever since.

This past week has been great. I loved spending time with my family and being able to catch up with them in person, rather than just over the phone or on Skype. Thanks ߲ݴý for sponsoring such a great weekend and putting so much spirit into Halloween and the fall season.
