From Election Night to a live performance by the Manhattan String Quartet, here are four events I think are particularly exciting this week at º¬Ð߲ݴ«Ã½.
First on Tuesday, November 4, come watch the outcomes of Election Day 2014 with other students and faculty in Persson Hall Auditorium. Some of the students taking the new course, American Elections and Party Power, taught by Professor Daniel Epstein, will be sharing their thoughts on the election.
Analysis and commentary also will be heard from professors, as well, including Professor Epstein’s thoughts on what this year’s election results could mean for our nation.
Pizza, home-baked cookies and other snacks will be provided. Watch the battle between the Democrats and Republicans for the Senate and head over to 27 Persson at 8 p.m.
On Tuesday night, acclaimed filmmaker will be on campus for a of his works, followed by a Q&A.
Loznitsa will be on campus as part of the . He has made 13 documentaries, and two of his films, My Joy and In the Fog, competed in the Cannes Film Festival.
Born in Belarus, Loznitsa’s films portray the changes in Russia that have followed the collapse of the Soviet Union, and capture various aspects of contemporary Russia as well. The event will take place at 7 p.m. in Golden Auditorium, Little Hall.
On Wednesday, November 5, Loznitsa will participate in a with FlahertyNYC programmers David Dinnell and Ted Kennedy about his successful career and the various films he has made. The discussion will take place at 8 p.m. in Golden Auditorium.
On Friday, the Manhattan String Quartet will be on campus in a free public concert. The New York Times has said, “The players come to the music with circumspection and unflagging intensity.â€
Having seen the quartet perform my sophomore year in conjunction with my Challenges of Modernity class, watching and hearing the quartet perform is truly a wonderful opportunity that students should take advantage of.
The Manhattan String Quartet, in its 44th season, will perform in Memorial Chapel at 7:30 p.m.
